Alerts and notifications
NexaRide sends alerts to your phone (on the lock screen) and keeps them in the Alerts tab. Alerts are written in the language you chose in Settings.
Which alerts you get

|---|---|---|
| A trip starts | The bus reaches the first stop of the route. Sent to everyone with a rider on the route. | A trip starts |
| The bus reaches our stop | The bus enters the area of the rider's pickup stop. Sent for each rider whose pickup stop it is. | The bus reaches our stop |
| They arrive (trip ends) | The bus reaches the last stop of the route. | They arrive (trip ends) |
| Route or time changes | The place changes the route's vehicle or ride time, adds stops, removes the rider's stop, or changes the order of the stops. | A route or time changes |
| Got on / got off the bus | The bus camera or bus tag records that the rider got on or off. | only All phone alerts |
| Rider confirmed | The place confirms a rider you added. | only All phone alerts |
| Booking updates | A company confirms, marks as paid, completes or cancels your booking. | always sent |
| Someone wants to follow name | Someone enters your rider's code in their account. Sent to the rider's parent account. | always sent |
| Request approved / Request declined | The rider's parent account answers your request to follow a rider. | always sent |
| New family member for name | Someone used a school invite code for your rider and now follows them. | always sent |
Trip and stop alerts are sent only around the route's ride time: from 15 minutes before it starts until 30 minutes after it ends, on the route's days. Movements of the bus outside that time don't send alerts.
To get The bus reaches our stop, the rider must have a pickup stop on that route (see "Choosing the pickup stop").
Choose which alerts you get
Open Me › Settings. Under Tell me when… turn each alert on or off:
- The bus reaches our stop
- A trip starts
- They arrive (trip ends)
- A route or time changes
- All phone alerts – turn off to pause everything
When All phone alerts is off, the other switches are turned off and can't be changed until you turn it back on. Booking updates are still sent.
Your choice is saved to your account, so it applies on every phone you sign in to.
The Alerts tab
- Alerts are grouped by Today, Yesterday and earlier dates.
- New alerts are highlighted. The bell on Home and the tab show how many are unread.
- Tap an alert to mark it as read. A booking alert opens My bookings.
- Mark all read marks every alert as read.
- Swipe an alert to the left to delete it.
Tapping an alert on the lock screen opens the app: booking alerts open My bookings, other alerts open the Alerts tab.
Email when the bus arrives
You can also get an email when the bus reaches the rider's stop:
- Open the rider's page.
- Turn on Email me when bus arrives.
The email goes to the email address saved for the rider (see "Riders"). It is sent only if the place has arrival emails turned on.
If you don't get alerts
- Check that notifications for NexaRide are allowed in your phone's settings. The app asks for permission after you sign in.
- In Me › Settings, check that All phone alerts and the alert you want are on.
- Check that the rider has a pickup stop on the route and is confirmed.
- Remember that trip alerts come only around ride time.
- Log out and sign in again: this registers your phone for alerts again.
- On some Android phones, battery saving blocks alerts. Allow NexaRide to run in the background.
After logging out, the phone gets no alerts until you sign in again.
Common questions
Why did I get two "The bus reaches our stop" alerts? You have two riders with that stop, or the bus left the stop area and entered it again.
Can my partner get the alerts too? Yes. Alerts about a rider go to the parent account and to every family member it approved. Your partner enters the rider code in their own account and you tap Approve (see "Riders"). Each account gets the alerts turned on in its own Settings. If your partner signs in to your account instead, they get the alerts too.
Why didn't I get "A trip starts"? It is sent when the bus reaches the route's first stop during ride time. If the bus started outside ride time, or the alert is turned off, it isn't sent.
