Timeline Report
The Timeline Report shows a visual day-by-day breakdown of vehicle activity. Each day is displayed as a horizontal bar divided into colored segments representing different vehicle states throughout the day.
Generating a Timeline
- Select Vehicle: Choose a vehicle from the dropdown
- Set Date Range: Define the time period to analyze
- Click Show to generate the timeline
Color Legend
The timeline uses five colors to represent vehicle states:
- Red (Park): The vehicle is stationary with the ignition off
- Green (Motion): The vehicle is in motion
- Yellow (Stop): The vehicle is stationary but the engine is running (or briefly without a GPS fix while running)
- Dark (No GPS, ignition off): The device reported no GPS fix while the ignition was off
- Gray (No Data): No reports were received for longer than 6 hours, suggesting the device itself may have been offline
How States Are Detected
The system uses device attributes when available, with fallback to speed-based detection:
- Movement detection: Uses the device's instant movement sensor if available, otherwise falls back to the motion attribute, and finally to speed (above 3 km/h = moving)
- No GPS fix: If the device reports an invalid GPS fix while stationary, the period is shown as dark (no GPS, ignition off) when the ignition is off, or as stop when the ignition is on
- Stop vs. Park: When the vehicle is not moving and has a valid fix, the ignition state decides the color — on is stop (yellow), off is park (red)
- No Data: A silent gap of more than 6 hours between reports is shown as no data (gray) rather than assumed parked. Shorter gaps default to park, since the vehicle is most likely just sitting still without an update
Not all devices report the same attributes. If a device does not provide ignition data, stop periods cannot be distinguished from park, and non-moving time will appear as park (red).
Selecting a Date/Time Range
Click and drag anywhere on the chart to highlight a range in purple — horizontally to select part of a day, or vertically across multiple day rows to select a range spanning several days. Releasing the mouse (or lifting your finger on touch devices) opens a summary for the selected range showing:
- The exact From and To timestamps and total Period
- Park, Stop, and Motion durations within the range
- Mileage, average speed, and maximum speed for the range
Click View in Chart Report at the bottom of the summary to open the Chart Report for the same vehicle and range — it opens with those filters already applied and loads automatically, no need to click Show again.
Close the summary to clear the highlighted selection.
Interacting with the Chart
- Hover: See the exact time range and duration for any segment
- Drag-select: Click and drag to highlight a range and view its stats (see above)
- X-axis Zoom: Use the slider at the bottom, or scroll/pinch on the chart, to zoom into specific hours of the day
Printing
Click the print icon to print the current chart view for records or sharing.
No Data Found
If "No data found" appears:
- Check that the vehicle was active during the selected dates
- Verify the vehicle's GPS device was online and reporting during the period
